Indeed, equations were the only feature in which LaTeX outperformed Word in the 2014 study that compared the two tools. 2/28/2023 0 Comments Thelma and louise logline![]() “The girls aren’t criminals,” he said in September during month four of his search. After sightings started coming out of Canada, authorities from two countries became involved in the hunt.īut the man who was the most consumed by the chase was bail bondsman Romeo who not only had a lot of money on the line, but who also admitted that he had become “intrigued” by “the girls.” The two appeared on “Unsolved Mysteries” and “America’s Most Wanted.” Local newspapers across the country reported on new developments and new leads in the case. It was during their months on the run that their case became widely publicized. Turford and Stevens repaid their love ones’ generosity by immediately skipping town. Their families, who expressed resounding shock and disbelief that the two women could have done anything like what they were accused of, paid it. It was that same amount that the judge set for each of their bail after they were caught in May 1995. Their haul was around $250,000 for just a few months of “work.” It is believed that during their initial run, they had at least 10 victims between Houston and Las Vegas. The “date” always ended the same way: Turford and Stevens walked away with the man’s cash and credit cards. Later, police would find wigs, ropes, a stun gun, and a regular gun in an apartment they had been using. Sometimes they stripped and humiliated their victims, sometimes they threatened them with a gun. In both cases, the man would quickly be restrained. In the second, the women would both show up to the man’s house later in the day after a date claiming to be police officers investigating dating service clients who were suspected of targeting women. In the first, Turford would lure her date to a private place where Stevens would join them. Once they determined that their mark was financially promising, they would use one of two tactics to get him right where they wanted him. But they should have been because that’s where the “real-life Thelma and Louise” saw an opportunity. Its hard to imagine that the men who were using dating services in the mid-1990s were similarly concerned about their safety. Women today are well aware that some caution is needed when using dating apps-meet new romantic prospects in a public place, beware of catfishing and worse. I think Carolyn was able to weave a web.” Romeo would later say that he think Carolyn was inspired to create Avery by the book-turned-film The Magus, in which an unassuming teacher falls prey to a wealthy man and his companion.Īs bizarre as the atmosphere in the Turford house must have been during this time, it got even more wild when the real crimes began in January of 1995. “Carolyn is Avery,” Romeo told the Washington Post. But whether that was the case and, if so, to what extent Turford was a victim of Stevens’s fabrications or an active player is unclear. When questioned, she blamed the wounds on a man named “Avery,” who was allegedly threatening not just her, but the entire Turford family as a way of coercing her into doing whatever he wanted.Īt trial, Turford’s lawyers portrayed Stevens as the mastermind behind the crime spree, saying she lured her friend into joining her bad behavior. ![]() People began to notice bruises and other evidence of injury on Stevens. It was there that a mysterious third player entered the scene, one who most likely never existed. The portrait of propriety began to fray in early 1994 when Stevens moved in with the Turford family. Stevens was single and characterized as the “timid and mousey daughter of a Texas preacher.” Needless to say, the collective response to what happened next was shock-how could these “girls” (as they were infuriatingly referred to) have broken so bad? She was the picture of a respectable late-20th century woman. She lived in the suburbs of Houston, was married to a computer executive, and was portrayed by those who knew her as a stereotypical baseball mom to her three young sons. ![]() Turford was the older and more settled of the duo-when they were finally caught, she was 37 to Stevens’ 30. In 1992, Turford accepted a nursing job at a psychiatric hospital in Houston where Stevens was working as an aide. A reviewer for Next Generation commented that typical war simulation fans would likely be turned off by the game's unhistorical setting, lighthearted atmosphere, and lack of challenge, but that its solid sense of fun would make it entertaining for those willing to try something different. They did, however, also criticize the instability on Windows 95, simplified magic system, and lack of scenario descriptions but overall rated the game as equal or more to its predecessor. They also praised the game's performance given how smoothly it ran. Disassemble whatever you can (like bed frames) and put the pieces wherever they'll fit most efficiently. Instead of just loading it onto the trailer as it comes out of the house, put aside small, light weight items which can be used to fill small spaces. You can pack a lot more stuff into a limited space than you think IF you think ahead and don't waste a single, solitary inch of space. Thank you, Frank - very helpful information and very much appreciated. At this point, I'd rather stick with one unit, if possible, not only because of the cost, but rather that I'd like to de-junk and moving is a good time to do it. I needed some numbers to work with and I definitely think it's possible that we might need two units depending if we take it all or not. Thank you so much, Rikki, that's exactly what I want to know. Make sure you go all the way to the top, putting softer bags of stuff, etc in that last 6" or so. I was told all got down there well, with no shifting, etc. When we were done, you could not fit a wallet in that space. It just takes a bit of time, and being good with puzzles. ![]() Then packed smaller boxes, bags, etc around them, then "locked" in the chairs with the next row of boxes.īelieve me, when most folks would say, "That's packed well", I was able to pack way more in that same space. We went up 3/4 of the way with boxes, then put 4 chairs across upside down with the legs up. We had many bags of clothes, pillows, etc that we jambed in between things. ![]() We packed heaviest on the bottom, lightest on top. They paid for 19 ft, but used 20, so they had to pay $45 more. They moved a big house full of junk, oops, I meant stuff, and they did it in 20 ft.ĪBF told them they could use more, but it would be 45 dollars more per foot to go from western NY to West Palm Beach, Fl. The final results will depend on how much stuff is actually in your home and how accomplished a loader your are given the material and manpower you have to work with.Īll I can tell you is that friends of ours just did this. If your 'large' family has a lot of unaccounted junk that wasn't mentioned, you might require two units to get everything moved. The interior capacity of a 28' long ABF trailer is just 1944 cuft. That means that the same 10,000 lbs would occupy between 2000-2500 cuft. Without adequate material, equipment and experience, DIYers generally manage to load a much lower density rate of between 4-5 lbs per cuft. When loading, professional movers usually achieve a density rate of between 6-6.5 lbs per cubic foot which means that estimated amount of weight would occupy about 1530-1666 cubic feet of van space. Most 'well appointed' three bedroom homes contain over 10,000 lbs of accumulated family 'stuff'. Judging just from larger furniture pieces your mentioned, 16' isn't gonna accommodate everything in your home. According to the automated uPack quote system, sixteen linear feet of interior space allows 1152 cubic feet to load everything you own. The quote is actually pretty reasonable, but is 16 feet of trailer space enough for what I've listed above (and then some) or do we need to purchase more trailer space? How long is a complete truck (ABF U-Pack truck)? Thank you for any help that anyone can provide.ĪBF's spring-ride freight trailers are 28' long on the outside. I almost forgot (of course, outside equipment that is stored in garage: lawnmower, large roto-tiller, wood chipper, tools, etc.) We will NOT be moving any large appliances - those would stay. We are a larger family so there is plenty of "stuff" (furniture and otherwise). Is this enough? We are talking three rooms of bedroom furniture and dressers, three full-size office desks, two computers, living room furniture (large oversized sofa sectional -three large, bulky pieces plus two large couches), complete dining room set, large kitchen table and 8 chairs, 4 large counter chairs, benches, 1 big-screen TV, three additional TV's, LOTS of cookware and dishes, books, book case, clothes, etc. For "three bedrooms", I was quoted 16 feet of trailer space. I received an instant quote from ABF U-Pack to relocate across country. ![]() ![]() ![]()
